The entire gearscore power grind to the 150 cap is generally not enjoyable.Activity diversity is limited by a small range of enemy and boss types.Endgame content is currently borderline non-existent in Avengers with Omega Threats eternally delayed, and things like the Mega Hive being too long and boring to be fun to farm consistently.
The “day to day,” “week to week” rewarding grind present in other live service looters is almost non-existent between character releases.Farming for gear with zero cosmetic component does not feel great in this genre.What’s ailing Avengers that Waggoner can help fix? If he’s a Systems Designer, that could encompass any number of things, but a few key problems: Waggoner also says he doesn’t appreciate the narrative that he is coming to “save” Avengers as he says Crystal Dynamics already has a passionate, hardworking team (despite all my issues with the game, I will say my interactions with them reinforce this). War Machine has previously been rumored to be coming to Avengers a while from now, but at the current pace of character releases, almost certainly not this year. Waggoner has also been on Twitter tweeting about how his favorite character is War Machine, but he says not to read too much into that. From the outside, a hire like him implies to me that yes, Crystal Dynamics will indeed be putting out content past the Wakanda Expansion later this year, as given how long development takes, much of what Waggoner brings to the table probably wouldn’t even be able to be implemented until after that. But many fans have fond memories of Marvel Heroes and his work on it before all that happened, and are hopeful that Waggoner can bring something special to the current Avengers game.
